We have an awesome team. Trail has always been remote-first. There’s an optional London office where all 21 of us gathered every 2 weeks.  We've been going for seven years now, but still operate as a startup - always learning, experimenting and pushing each other on.
The team is made up of Growth, Customer and Product. We are growing fast and we need a finance whiz to manage billing & subscriptions, bookkeeping and financial reporting.
What's the job?
You will be responsible for the billing & finance function at Trail. This includes managing all of our customer accounts and queries, ensuring our customers receive a an efficient and friendly billing experience.  You will look after some accounting functions, such as accounts payable and bank reconciliations, working with our external accounting agency. You will also be responsible for ongoing financial and revenue reporting
Working closely with our Operations Manager, the focus will be on evolving the way we operate to be more effective and efficient.
This role is an opportunity to mould the way the finance function works as Trail grows and expands in to new markets. You will participate in high value-adding projects, including optimising our end-to-end finance processes, as well as the customer experience of self-serve billing in the product.
What you’ll be doing
  • Monitoring the accounts inbox and responding to customer queries
  • Supporting CS & sales with billing queries and customer contracts
  • Manage Accounts Payable/Receivable and Bank Reconciliations
  • Constantly managing cashflow, ensuring invoices are paid in a timely manner
  • Chasing outstanding payment from customers
  • Support strategic projects in the Customer Operations Team to improve and automate self-serve billing in the app
  • Always exploring innovative ways to automate or improve Trail processes, particularly within billing
  • Liaise with our outsourced management accountants to ensure timely preparation of Trail’s monthly financial reporting and ensure the successful completion of all monthly payables, payroll and pension payments
  • Create complex spreadsheets and/or databases of metrics for data exploration and revenue reporting
  • Review financial data, and prepare monthly management reports and other ad-hoc financial reports for management
What skills and experience do I need?
  • Experience working in a business finance function essential - SaaS Subscription business is a plus
  • Studying for ACCA/AAT/CIMA or equivalent
  • Strong accounting knowledge on revenue recognition within a subscription based company
  • Expert user of Excel/Google Sheets - including creating pivots, vlookups, formulas. While not required, experience with SQL and Baremetrics and financial planning tools is a plus.
  • Experience using tools such as Stripe Billing, Google suite, Xero, Dext (ReceiptBank) is preferred but not required
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is absolutely required
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to interpret data and make cost effective decisions
  • Track record of handling customer enquiries
